A day out with Amanda and Maddy

Today was my last full day in Melbourne. I will return home to Naracoorte for the last week of school holidays tomorrow morning. I have had a wonderful last day in Melbourne all thanks to Amanda and Maddy. Amanda is the exchange student in Geelong, she is from Brazil. Maddy is her host sister. She is going on exchange to Switzerland in January. I am so happy for her, she's in for a wonderful experience. I took a train into the city this morning and met them at the Myki ticket booth. We then took the tram to Queen Victoria Markets. We stared at our map for a while before deciding what tram we needed to take and in which direction. It was great fun, if you like feeling lost that is. . . :) haha This is a photo of Maddy (left) and Amanda (right) staring at the map as we attempted to find our way around the city. :)

As I said, we spent the day at the Queen Victoria Markets. We ate Jam doughnuts and had out photo taken in front of the Fruit and Veg section. I love markets. We don't have them in Durango. I'm sure you can find something like this somewhere in America but there one in Durango that's for sure. We do have a 'Farmers Market' but that's only once a week for a couple months out of the year and it's held in a parking lot. . . real official right?? It's nice though. You can buy locally grown fruit and cheese and stuff. But there isn't a shopping section. The Queen Vic markets and Paddy's Markets (in Sydney) have both shopping centers and food sections. Ours is just what people grow in their gardens. And last I checked, you can't find a stuffed Kangaroo in a garden. . . :)


Some parts of these markets don't smell that great. You would think that the fish section would be the worst part would be the fist section, and let me tell you, that STUNK!!! But it's the meat section that always gets me. There were sliding glass doors seperating the meat section from the rest of the world. The minute those doors open, you're hit with a massive wave of dead cow. It makes me wanna hurl. This is silly photo of us in the fish section of the markets.

This is a photo of us inside the shopping section of the markets. It was crowded, but what can you expect for a Thursday in the middle of school holidays???? The shopping section of the markets is filled with cheap clothes and about a billion Australian souviner shops. You get sucked in, buying a few 5$ items here and there. Before you know it, you're out of cash, begging your companions for their spare change so you can buy this or that. . .sorry Maddy :)




But it was heaps of fun and I can't wait to see both Amanda and Maddy this November for the Rotary meeting!!! YAY!!!! :)
